Leo Evans

Leo Evans has had an eclectic career in Politics and Higher Education, and is now working on the University of Liverpool's Development and Alumni Relations Team.

Leo studied BA Politics at the University of Liverpool graduating in 2016. During his studies, he focussed on British and Northern Irish politics. During his second year, he stood as a Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate in the 2015 General Election. During this time, he fondly remembers being the butt of many lecturers jokes, especially in Stuart Wilks-Heeg’s UK General Elections module, which was probably apt.

In his final year, Leo took part in the Parliamentary Placement Scheme, working for the Liberal Democrat MP for Southport, John Pugh. His work focussed on press relations, communications and campaign work.

He graduated with a First and secured a full time position in John’s Westminster Office. After another six months, he moved to the constituency office in Southport, focussing more on local campaigns organising. He was the campaigns organiser for Southport in the 2017 general election after John’s retirement and stayed in Southport after the election.

In 2019, Leo was elected to Sefton Council as a Liberal Democrat Councillor for Cambridge Ward and was re-elected in 2023, he now sits on Sefton Council alongside his former boss.

Leo now works for the University of Liverpool’s Development and Alumni Relations Team, working with recent graduates to engage with the University after they’ve graduated, with a particular focus on graduation and the University’s Alumni Awards.
