Science EDI poster competition
The EDI Committee at the School of Physical Sciences is organising the second edition of the EDI Poster Competition. The theme for this year's competition is "Inclusivity in Science". This is an opportunity to showcase the topics that you feel passionate about and want to champion!
Competition rules
The rules for the Science EDI Poster Competition 2026 are:
- You can submit the posters from 27th January at 9am to 3rd March 2026 at 5pm (5 weeks).
- Posters can be submitted individually or in groups (of up to 5 students). All students at the University of Liverpool are eligible to participate, including both undergraduate and postgraduate students. Each student is allowed to submit only one poster.
- The poster has to relate to an Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) topic relevant to Science. Informal inquiries about possible topics are welcomed by any of the School of Physical Sciences EDI Champions.
- Posters will be displayed in Central Teaching Hub atrium from Monday 9 March to Friday 13 March where people will have the opportunity to vote for their favourites.
- For voting purposes, all participating posters may be uploaded temporarily to the University's website. However, the University reserves the right not to upload a poster if its content is deemed inappropriate. The winning posters will be uploaded permanently to the University's website.
- There will be three prizes of £100 per poster. If a winning poster has multiple authors, the prize will be divided equally among them. The winning posters will be printed and displayed in their Department and across the University for at least one year.
- Posters have to be original work. Use of images or text subject to copyright is not permitted. The accepted formats are PDF, PNG, or JPG, with a resolution suitable for printing in A1 size (e.g., 594 x 841 mm at 300 pixels per inch).

- The winners of the competition will be announced as part of the event to celebrate the International Day of Women and Girls in Science that will take place at the Victoria Gallery and Museum on 18th March 2026.
- We discourage the use of generative AI in the creation of your poster (see the University guidelines on the use of AI tools). If you decide to use any AI tools, please declare it in the submission form.

First EDI Poster Competition
The first EDI Poster Competition took place in 2023 in the Department of Mathematical Sciences. The winner was Ms Julia Münch, a first-year PhD student in Mathematics. Her poster was titled Women in Mathematics shows Euphemia Lofton Heynes, the first African-American woman to obtain a PhD in Mathematics. Within her silhouette, there is a list of maths theorems proven by women.

She received the award from Prof. Gita Sedghi (Former School EDI Lead) on the occasion of International Women in Maths Day 2023, which took place on 12 May 2023.
