My research interests lie primarily in the late Victorian period, and I write mostly on the relation between literature and religion at the fin de siecle. This includes late-Victorian religion and psychology, principally in the work of William James, and the relation of religion to the aesthetic movement and the decadence. I am also very interested in projects relating to tracing the history of reading in the nineteenth century.
