On behalf of the Department of Music and the School of the Arts, I am delighted to welcome you as a new student.
You are about to join an academic department that embraces the full spectrum of music, one which feeds off and interplays with the musical legacies of its home city – a capital of culture. We hope that whatever your background you will quickly feel at home here.
Whichever Department of Music programme you are taking, you will have access to excellent and specialist facilities relevant to your course. This includes bookable spaces for classical and pop performance, access to creative software in our studios and game design suite, and out-of-hours hire of instruments and equipment. You will have plenty of opportunities to take advantage of the Tung Auditorium, situated in the new Yoko Ono Lennon Centre, including ticket offers to its rich programme of concerts and events. As a Music student, you’ll be part of the School of the Arts, home to a wider community of scholars from five different disciplines. We are sure you will be inspired by and benefit from the breadth and vitality within the School of the Arts, with world-class teaching and in-depth specialist expertise available to you. The School also has a dedicated Student Support Centre who will help through your time at University.
