Malmö, Sweden (via Copenhagen, Denmark)
NG26 Games Design Conference 26-29 May 2026 (Applications deadline Friday 20 February 2026)
We are pleased to advise that the department is offering suitable undergraduate students the opportunity to attend this exciting conference which is being planned for 2026.
Eligibility
- You must be a registered University of Liverpool undergraduate Music / Games Design student, studying Game Design or Music Technology as part of your programme. Students from any year may apply; third years/final year have priority.
- Incoming students on an exchange semester or exchange year are ineligible. Students who have previously been on a departmental GO short trip are ineligible. Students who have been on, or have been awarded, a University/SOTA international experience that is a non-departmental short trip are lower priority.
- The trip must last at least 5 days, inclusive of travel days (i.e. you must stay a minimum of four nights). As the conference is 26-29 May, then you should consider 25-30 May or longer and specify on the form. Please be aware that the trip is in Exam Week 3 of semester 2. There are no expected assessments due during that week or afterwards, but please be aware that exams may be scheduled during this week at a later time (e.g. COMP342). It is your responsibility to ensure you check with your module leaders and meet all deadlines.
- Your application must make clear how the games industry relates to your studies and career interest and specifically how attendance at the conference will support this, and what preparation you will take to make the most of the opportunity.
- If appropriate to your visit, you are advised to indicate how you will spend your time on any other days other than the conference, to take advantage of the location and its culture.
Funding for this opportunity this year is kindly supported by the School of the Arts. The support you may receive:
- The conference fee will be paid for all students directly by the University.
- The support offered towards accommodation and/or travel is in line with UoL guidance which specifies a higher amount of support for those with WP status: Non-WP students receive £200; WP Students receive £365.
If offered support for the trip, you must confirm acceptance within 7 days (contact lee.tsang@liverpool.ac.uk) so that your conference fee can be paid by the University.
Things to note
While it may be possible to fly directly to Malmö, it is much more financially prudent to fly via Manchester to Copenhagen and take the train to Malmö.
Be aware that coordinating with fellow students over hostel accommodation may be a way to help you to keep costs down. Some information on accommodation options may be communicated by the organisers after the full programme details have been released. You will be informed if this is the case.
Students who confirm their attendance but do not proceed with the trip will be required to refund the University all financial support, including the conference fee. This refund must be settled no later than June 2026. Please be aware that graduating students must have any outstanding financial matters settled before they can graduate.
You will be required to complete a short post-trip report within 10 days of your trip. This form will be sent to you in May.
How to apply
Please complete the application form and select ‘NG26’ which will prompt you to provide relevant information about the trip.
