Lowri and Josie at Apple Music

The University of Liverpool's Department of Music is delighted to share that it has begun working with Apple Music as a new curator on the service. The Department will manage an initial set of four playlists on the platform, showcasing the vibrant local music scene alongside creative work from students and the community through the department's Merciful Sound record label.

The collaboration provides a global platform for Liverpool’s musical talent, but also strengthens industry engagement opportunities for students. As part of this, the Department was recently offered complimentary tickets to Apple Music's International Women's Month Panel. Two students, Lowri and Josie, also joined a behind-the-scenes tour of Apple Music's facilities ahead of the panel. The visit gave valuable insight into how a major digital music platform operates and opened up conversations about potential career pathways within the industry

Looking ahead, the Department is planning a larger visit to Apple Music's offices in Battersea, where students and staff will have the opportunity to explore the work further."

MusicFutures is an £8 million, five-year research and innovation programme led by the University of Liverpool in partnership with Liverpool John Moores University, funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) to position the Liverpool City Region as a global hub for music research, development and innovation. As part of this partnership, it curates the MusicFutures: LCR Studio Sounds playlist, showcasing tracks recorded in studios across the region.
