Royal Literary Fund Fellow Sian Hughes

Dr Sian Hughes

Keen to improve your work? Not sure of the best way to structure an essay or presentation? Feeling stuck with an assignment?

If you'd like to write better, or if you're simply seeking to enhance your fluency, clarity and style on paper, the Royal Literary Fund Fellow is here to help. The Fellow can offer one-off guidance sessions or more long-term support. Completing a simple form is all that's required.

The Fellow is here for everyone at the University: all students, regardless of level or subject. Writing support is given in one-to-one 45min consultations that focus on good writing practice, style, technique and process, rather than content. This service is free, confidential, and entirely independent of the University.

Sian Hughes is a novelist and poet who comes from rural Cheshire. Her first novel, Pearl, was published by Indigo Press in 2023 and was long-listed for The Booker Prize. A second novel, No Such Thing as Monday, is due for publication with Indigo Press in April 2026. Her poetry collection, The Missing, published by Salt Press in 2008, contained the Arvon International Poetry Prize winning poem 'The Send-Off' and won the Seamus Heaney award for a first collection.
