The Department of Music is pleased to offer two new MRes scholarships for research projects linked to its AHRC-funded innovation programme, MusicFutures.
The scholarships are available to full-time MRes Music students commencing their studies in September 2025, and cover the full UK tuition fee (currently £5,006).
There are two projects available:
1. MRes in Culture to Impact: Developing a Practical Framework for Social Value Measurement in the Cultural Sector – A Liverpool City Region Case Study
Are you passionate about the value of diverse music, culture and creativity to society? This project will work on innovative research exploring how creativity and culture are valued.
It will support both MusicFutures and RealWorth, a social value consultancy based in Liverpool, to create an inclusive, practical, and universally applicable methodology to capture and report the unique impacts of cultural activities, assets, and creativity on society.
2. MRes in Performance Health and Wellbeing in Music Education
Are you passionate about musicians' wellbeing and interested in shaping the future of music education? This project will explore practices for supporting health and wellbeing in music education across England.
It forms part of the prestigious four-year Music Opportunities Pilot programme led by Young Sounds UK. Working with Royal Liverpool Philharmonic staff, Dr. Sarah Upjohn, a specialist in preventing injuries in young musicians, and the MusicFutures research team, the successful candidate will investigate how performance health and wellbeing practices are taught and implemented within music education settings.

Applicants who would pay International fees may also apply, but please be advised that the scholarship only covers the UK fee, and international applicants would therefore need to make up the difference in fees.
