About

My academic journey commenced with a BA in Economics from Cyprus International University. Subsequently, I moved to Manchester, where I pursued an MSc in Economics at the University of Manchester, funded by a British Council Chevening scholarship. My doctoral research then began at the University of Sheffield. During my PhD studies, my experience as a graduate teaching assistant was pivotal in developing my passion for both teaching and research.

Following the completion of my PhD, which explored the economic implications of a potential Turkish EU membership, specifically concerning trade and labour migration, I have undertaken various lecturing and senior lecturing roles. My teaching portfolio includes a diverse range of modules, from Macroeconomics, International Economics, International Business Strategy, Business in Emerging Markets, Environmental Economics and Sustainability Policies, Development of Economic Thought, and Management Economics, to undergraduate and postgraduate Dissertation supervision. I have also had the opportunity to lead programmes such as the BA International Business, BA International Business Management, MA International Economics and MA International Business Management at other institutions, alongside supervising undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD dissertations in Economics and Business.

My professional contributions encompass extensive leadership in education, focusing on curriculum development and programme management, alongside a strong commitment to quality assurance. This includes acting as an internal and external PhD examiner, and supervising numerous PhD dissertations. My research primarily involves utilising Social Accounting Matrix (SAM) based global Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) models for policy simulations related to trade, migration and remittances as well as environmental and sustainability policies. I am also part of the CGEMOD team that offers training in CGE modelling. Furthermore, I contribute to innovation in enhancing student experience through course improvements and the development of authentic, inclusive assessment strategies.

I am also an active member of the Teaching and Learning Northwest Economics Network and the Women in Economics Northwest Mentorship Network (WENMN), which aims to empower, connect, and support women in economics across the Northwest through mentorship, professional development, and community-building initiatives.

What I find most rewarding in my role is fostering a connection with students; it is genuinely inspiring to observe their understanding grow during lectures, their inquisitiveness during applicant and open days, and their excitement during induction week. Witnessing their development from their first year through to graduation, and celebrating their achievements as they prepare for their future careers, is a distinct privilege.
