SSPC student study trip to Krakow, Poland
The Department of Sociology, Social Policy and Criminology is inviting applications for a subsidised Study Trip to Krakow, Poland.
This is a unique opportunity for SSPC students to visit various points of interest across the city of Krakow to further ascertain knowledge and experiences that will positively enhance their academic understanding, cultural awareness and employability. In particular, this trip is likely to aid you in developing knowledge and skills which are likely to assist you in your degree studies and beyond.
Throughout the 5-day study trip, successful applicants will be guided by SSPC academic, Dr Leon Moosavi, to various locations of importance relating to Sociology, Social Policy and Criminology. This trip will also involve meeting a variety of local people who will provide informative tours and experiences.
The provisional itinerary includes:
- A visit to Jagiellonian University for a workshop led by academics.
- A guided walking tour of Krakow.
- A visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau.
- A visit to Schindler's Factory Museum.
- A tour of Wieliczka Salt Mine.
Please note that topics covered on certain points of the itinerary are extremely sensitive and students visiting must display a respectful attitude at all times.

Study trip dates
The study trip will take place Monday 7 - Friday 11 April 2025.
How much will it cost?
Participating students are required to pay a non-refundable deposit of £200.00 to guarantee their place. However, if you are a widening participation student or in receipt of the University of Liverpool Bursary, you will only be required to pay a non-refundable deposit of £50.00 to guarantee your place.
Other costs have been subsidised by the School of Law and Social Justice including return flights, accommodation, continental breakfast for the duration of your stay, travel to and from the accommodation, travel insurance and almost all of the fee's incurred by the itinerary. There will also be 24-hour support and a bespoke itinerary and app provided by a third-party trip planner which will be available to you for the duration of the trip.
Please note, students are required to cover the cost of food and drink whilst on the Study Trip.
Students may also be required to purchase travel tickets within Krakow and will need to cover the cost of any activities outside of those on the itinerary. If students require a visa in advance or a new passport, they will also be required to cover the cost of this themselves.
The eligible students should satisfy the following criteria:
- Have obtained an overall average results of more than 60% in their previous year of study.
- Be 2nd or 3rd year SSPC students as of the 24/25 academic year.
- Have no conflict of interest that will bar them from entering the country of Poland. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A willingness to learn and ask questions while undertaking visits at all points of the itinerary.
- A keen interest in Sociology, Social Policy and/or Criminology.
- The time and capacity to travel to Poland and complete the study trip.
