Dr Leon Moosavi – Guest talks’

Published on

On Tuesday 26th February, Dr Leon Moosavi was invited to talk about his on-going research on conversion to Islam in Britain as part of Cardiff University's Islam in the UK public lecture series. On Wednesday 27th February, he was also invited to talk about his research at Oxford University's Centre for Islamic Studies. In his talks, Leon referred to conversion to Islam as about interrogation and negotiation since Muslim converts often find they have to face rigorous questions from non-Muslims and lifelong Muslims about how they position themselves in relation to Britishness and Muslimness. He discussed their experiences of Islamophobia, being considered as traitors but also the challenges of integrating into the Muslim community.
