Personal Statement

I have experience working across a broad range of populations and research methodologies in both community and healthcare contexts, with significant expertise in evidence synthesis. I enjoy supporting and mentoring roles, and I have supervised several PhD students to completion across a range of different topics to include both qualitative and quantitative research methods.

I began my research career at Aberystwyth University where both my PhD and first research post focused on lifestyle and self-management in type 2 diabetes. I then spent seven years working as a research fellow with the Lincoln International Institute for Rural Health where a core part of my role was to focus on the development of the Lincolnshire Joint Research Agenda. As part of this program of work, I developed and led an evidence synthesis training program that enabled collaborative working between key stakeholders and provided a successful and sustainable research pathway for NHS colleagues. I have also developed materials and a training package for patients and members of the public who are interested in research participation and understanding more about systematic review methods.

In 2021 I spent two years at the University of Leicester as a research fellow in the Centre for Ethnic Health Research where I worked collaboratively across the NIHR ARC-EM core research themes ‘ethnicity and health inequalities’, and ‘multimorbidity’. Within this role I had oversight of the ARC-EM systematic reviews, and I developed an Equality Impact Assessment Tool for Systematic Reviews. I welcome conversations and collaborations in all areas relating to evidence synthesis, methods development, Nature Based Interventions, health inequalities and equality in research.
