About

I teach on our MA Education programme being responsible for the Education Leadership and Reflective Practice Modules, and supervise on our EdD and PhD programmes with the Institute of Education, in the School of Histories, Languages and Cultures. I have over twenty years of experience of teaching and leading in Higher Education. I take an active interest in the wider life of the academy and conduct research, regularly publishing in the areas of professional practice, and Leadership Preparation and Development (LPD). I am Visiting Senior Fellow for Education Policy in the Department of Social Policy, at the London School of Economics.

I am Chair of the Learned Society BELMAS 2023-2026 where I have been a Trustee since 2016. I established a BELMAS Research Interest Group (RIG) in Leadership Preparation and Development (LPD) in 2015, that I still co-convene, with the support of colleagues in Sweden and Australia, and I review for both our BELMAS Journals. Through my BELMAS work, I am part of the international groups CCEAM (https://cceam.info/), and ISLDN (https://www.isldn.com/), and present and Chair Symposia regularly at International Conferences, ECER September 2025 (https://eera-ecer.de/conferences/ecer-2025-belgrade) and UCEA November 2025 (https://www.ucea.org/ucea25_general_info.php).

I became a Fellow of the RSA in 2015; a Senior Fellow of the HEA in 2016; a Fellow of the Chartered College of Teaching in 2019; and have a track record of working in gender and race equity as a Fellow at the University Centre of Educational and Social Equity since it was founded in 2019. I was awarded a Pearson National Teaching Award in 2020, and ran a regional education charity between 2018 and 2025, where we trained 500 teachers as part of a collaborative partnership with our local university, and ran Continuing Professional and Leadership Development (CPLD) for teachers, and head teachers, across STEM and school improvement work. I was made a Fellow of CollectiveEd in 2021; appointed to the Board of CCEAM in 2022; made a VSF at LSE in 2023; joined ISLDN in 2024; and was made an Associate Fellow in the Centre for Climate Change and Sustainable Education (CCCSE) at UCL in 2025.

I came into Higher Education full-time in 2008, after having worked with the Open University as an Associate Lecturer, and as a Managing Mentor on the PGCE programme at the Institute of Education (now UCL's IoE) having worked in a ‘top ten’ sixth form college and a school where I held a range of leadership roles. I have since run both undergraduate and postgraduate Education pathways at the University of Derby (2008-2015), and a Masters programme at the University of Warwick (2015-2018). I have been a part-time doctoral supervisor with Liverpool since 2017.

I am a member of BERA, and their Educational Leadership SIG, and a former International Committee member of IPDA (2013-2016). I am also a Regional Leader for the international grassroots movement @WomenEd, where we published a double Special Issue of the journal SLAM in 2024. I am a Co Editor in Chief of the new SAGE Journal Gender Equity, and regularly review papers, externally examine, and have 19 doctoral completions, and have examined more than 25 EdD and PhD theses at Vivas.LinkedIn Profile.
