The Brain Infection & Inflammation Group are a pioneering research team working at the intersection between neuroscience and infection.

The Brain Infection & Inflammation Group is led by Professor Benedict Michael, Chair in Infection Neuroscience and MRC Clinician Scientist at The NIHR Health Protection Research Unit for Emerging and Zoonotic Infection and an Honorary Consultant Neurologist at The Walton Centre.

Our reserach group work collectively to understand the impact of infection on the brain, not just clinically, but also at an immunological, virologic, genetic, and neuroimaging level. 

Governance

The Group's structure has been designed to ensure that the managing, coordinating, stakeholder engagement and impact of our research are all subject to regular, robust scrutiny.

  • Chair of the Steering Committee is Professor Tom Solomon, the University of Liverpool.
  • Chair of the Patient and Public Involvement Panel is Dr Ava Easton, Encephalitis International.
