Welcome to the School of Histories, Languages and Cultures: The Essentials

Transitioning to university can be both challenging and exciting. This session will cover essential resources and expectations for students, beginning with a welcome talk from the Dean of School and an introduction to key staff. You'll learn about student support, the student voice, careers, and employability opportunities, as well as managing time effectively, taking ownership of your work, and understanding available support. This session is designed to equip you with the knowledge and tools for a smooth and successful transition to university life. 

This session is for new ACE and History undergraduate students, and ACE, History and Politics postgraduate students studying a programme within the School of Histories, Languages and Cultures.

Tuesday 16 September

Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences PGT Welcome Talk

This session will provide a welcome from the Vice Chancellor and Director of Student Experience here at the University of Liverpool. Hear about the different things you can get involved in during your time here, and the services available to you across the University.

Archives and Records Management -Student presentations

Get to know your fellow MARM students and practise your presentation skills. All students are requested to prepare a 10-minute presentation on a topic of their own choice (it does not need to have any relationship to record-keeping). You can bring props and use PowerPoint or other technologies if desired, but you do not have to do so. 

This session is for all students studying the Master's in Archives and Records Management.

Wednesday 17 September

Archives and Records Management - Programme Induction

This session will introduce the MARM programme, people, places and resources and develop study skills in reading, note-taking and academic writing. 

This session is for all students studying the Masters in Archives and Records Management.

An introduction to your Department, and a chance to meet key departmental staff and learn more about your degree programme, modules and forms of assessment. 

This session is for all new students studying MAs in History and International Slavery Studies and Master's in Archives and Records Management, and History Master's of Research.

International Slavery Studies – Programme Induction

This session will introduce you to your degree programme, module choices, support and the key things you need to know at the start of your studies.

This session is for all students studying the MA in International Slavery Studies.

Archives and Records Management - Field Trip to Waterways Archive

Location: Unilever in Port Sunlight 

Meeting point at Unilever in Port Sunlight, which is a short walk from Port Sunlight station, easily accessible from Lime Street or Liverpool Central stations and all other stations on Merseyrail network.  The trip will involve a tour of the Unilever archive facilities, talk from staff and introduction to business archives more broadly.

Join us for a games activity exploring the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals.
