We are pleased to announce the launch of the University of Liverpool Institute of Education.

As a supportive and inclusive academic community, it will serve as a focal point for transformative learning and teaching guided by those actively engaged in research into education. Its taught offerings will include an MA and a PhD in Education, which are overseen by a core and extended academic team drawn from across the University and beyond. To date, the team has been involved in the development and delivery of a Doctor of Education programme, which, although no longer recruiting, still has an active cohort of students writing their dissertations.

Current research activity includes a wide range of topics with a global reach, such as the use of technology in learning and teaching, the training of medical professionals, entrepreneurship and education, micro credentials, inclusion and the effect of the pandemic on higher education. We look forward to working with colleagues from across the University and seek to build strong interdisciplinary partnerships in order to facilitate positive educational change locally, nationally, and globally. Partnerships with other programmes are already in development. This initiative reflects our strategic vision to shape educational futures, helping to support our immediate and wider community in meaningful and forward-thinking debate about education.

Professor Alison Fell said:

I’m delighted that we are launching a new University of Liverpool Institute of Education under Anthony Edwards’ leadership as Director. The Institute will be building on strong foundations, but equally has the potential to increase its activity and national and global impact in the years ahead. Digital and other transformations in primary, secondary and higher education settings mean that education is an exciting and increasingly important research area, and the new MA is an excellent opportunity for education professionals looking for career development opportunities as well as undergraduate students interested in future careers in the education sector.
