Out of hours emergency cover is provided 6pm-8:30am Monday to Thursday, and from 5:30pm Friday to 8:30am Monday.
Our knowledgeable vets are all local and are available for visits or advice. All out of hours visits are subject to an out of hours visit fee, which varies with the time of day or night.

If you require emergency assistance please call 0151 794 6199.

Registering or second opinions

If you would like to register with our practice please contact the office and they will be happy to take your details. If you require our services for a second opinion please contact your existing vets to provide us with all your horse’s medical history.

Catchment area

We cover the Wirral and Northern outskirts of Chester. Please call us if you are unsure whether your address is within our catchment area and we will be happy to assist you.

Insurance

We recommend horses are insured. Vets bills can be very expensive and insurance can cover some or all of the costs involved. We also recommend that clients look at varying policies and check the small print and likely exclusions before insuring their horse.

We are happy to complete vets certificates on insurance forms and liaise with companies at your request. To cover the cost of the time involved in the paperwork we charge a small fee for this service. It is worth being aware that insurance companies will place exclusions on policies starting from 1 year after the onset of initial injury, disease or lameness. They can place exclusions whether or not the problem was claimed for.

Prescriptions

We can supply veterinary prescriptions for treatments for horses under our care on request. In order to do this we need to have seen your horse for the condition within the last 6 months. This also applies to repeat prescriptions.

Please contact reception on 0151 794 6199 to order a prescription. Prescriptions cost a small fee and we require 48 hours notice within a working week to prepare them.

Student Teaching

We are a University practice and as such teaching students is part of our day to day work. We frequently have students out on calls with our vets, learning about routine and emergency first opinion work. In certain circumstances we may ask that students inject your horse or carry out other procedures. This is a vital part of their training and will always be carried out under veterinary supervision.

If you are not willing for students to carry out supervised simple procedures on your horse please let us know when we ask your permission. In very special circumstances we may be able to avoid bringing students out to your yard, though as we are a University teaching practice this would need agreement with one of our vets prior to the call being booked in.

We appreciate your involvement in our training of the next generation of vets.
