Outreach
Outreach in Engineering aims to introduce young people to the fun and excitement of 'Professional Engineering'. We aim to dispel commonly held misconceptions and hence promote Engineering as an aspirational profession on a par with medicine, which is suitable for talented, creative people irrespective of gender.
Events
Engineering plays a vital role in society – designing, developing, and manufacturing things that people use in their everyday life. This encompasses a wide range of interdisciplinary efforts, e.g., buildings, bridges, water ways, vehicles, satellites, cleaning products, materials, food, medicine, biomedical implants and so much more. We aim to dispel commonly held misconceptions, promote engineering as an aspirational profession, and showcase the range of careers available to those studying engineering.
The School of Engineering offers a range of outreach activities targeted at primary school students, secondary school students, and the general public. We provide a wide range of activities spanning the different disciplines available within Engineering. These range from interactive, hands-on workshops to lectures and career talks. We can organise for these events to be held on campus or for us to visit your school. Plus, many members of staff are involved in public engagement and deliver talks that showcase the cutting-edge research that goes on within the School of Engineering. The School of Engineering also contributes to LivWiSE (Liverpool Women in Science & Engineering) which works to raise awareness of opportunities for women and underrepresented groups in STEM.
Recent / Ongoing Outreach Events
We have contributed to Insight into University Residential Courses (previously known as Headstart) since 2003. This course offers an insight into life at university for a student on the aerospace engineering programme.
