Student Athena Swan Award (2015/16 – Present)
Established to recognise undergraduate students who have actively promoted the participation of women in engineering.

Introduced to celebrate students making significant contributions to promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion within the School and the University.

Support BCSWomen Lovelace Colloquium
Support offered to undergraduate and postgraduate students to participate in the colloquium each year. In 2023, hosted the prestigious annual one-day conference for women and non-binary students in computing and related disciplines.

‘Take One or Donate One’ Initiative
A self-funded program providing eco-friendly, recyclable, and biodegradable sanitary products in female and disabled toilets within the CSI building. This self-funded initiative encourages students and staff to donate or use products when needed.
EDI Allies Group
Created to foster a more inclusive environment within the School.
Core Working Hours Policy
Advocates for School meetings to be scheduled between 10:00 and 15:00 to support staff and students with childcare and carer responsibilities.
EDI Training and Awareness Programmes
Regularly offer EDI-related trainings and awareness programmes such as Unconscious Bias, Active Bystander and Micro-Inequalities to students and staff.
EDI Talks and Panel Discussions
Regularly organise events on key topics, including on International Women’s Day and International Men’s Day.
Mentoring Programme
Implemented a structured mentoring system to support staff in their career progression.
Inclusive Recruitment and Career Support
Adopted Faculty-level guidelines to mitigate unconscious bias in academic appointments and ensure equitable selection and interview processes. Additionally, implemented Faculty-level policies to support staff returning from maternity, paternity, or parental leave.
Committee Engagement and Representation
EDI/Athena Swan members actively contribute to various University and Faculty committees, including the University’s Athena Swan Steering Group, Faculty EDI Committee, SSLC Committee, LivWise, and the BAME Group. Many members also serve as Family-Friendly Advisors and Mental Health Aiders.
