The University of Liverpool is expanding on its provision in Game Design with the launch of a new master’s programme.
MA Game Design, which will accept students from September 2026, builds on the popular BSc Game Design, and seeks to equip aspiring game developers with the practical skills that are in demand by this fast-growing, multi-billion dollar industry.
The MA will have a particular focus on eSports and online games, as well as issues of diversity and representation. Students will develop advanced skills in areas such as audio design, spatial design, user interface (UI) and user experience (UX).
The course will culminate in the submission of a portfolio of assets, which students will also be able to use to showcase to prospective employers.
“With its focus on developing creative design skills, our new MA Game Design provides a distinctive emphasis not typically offered in other Russell Group universities”, says Dr Giles Hooper, Programme Lead.
“Our aim is to produce the next generation of game designers and developers, who possess not only the necessary technological skills, but the social and cultural awareness to create games which represent their players.”
Applications for MA Game Design will open in October 2025. For further information, and to register your interest, please visit the webpage.
