Research in my lab is focussed on understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying disorders of the nervous system. To that end, we use modern genetic techniques to modify model organisms for in vivo functional analyses as well as a range of cellular, molecular and biochemical approaches.
Current projects include:
1. Genetic and functional investigation of in vivo alcohol effects on the nervous system leading to addiction.
2. Exploring the function of WDR81 in progressive neurological dysfunction.
3. Role of small heat shock proteins (HSPs) in addiction, neurodegeneration and Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease.
On this and other projects, I collaborate with Alan Morgan, Graeme Sills, Munir Pirmohamed, Elizabeth Seward and Dean Hammond. Work in this laboratory is currently supported by MRC.
