Pathways to Medicine
Pathways to Medicine is a 2-year programme, delivered in partnership between the University of Liverpool and The Sutton Trust. During the programme, students are supported to progress onto studying Medicine at University, and to explore the range of career pathways within the medical profession.
Participants will have the opportunity to:
- Attend taster sessions on campus and at partner organisations e.g. hospitals and other care providers
- Take part in a work experience activity and explore what it means to work in the NHS
- Meet staff and students from the University of Liverpool’s School of Medicine
- Receive academic and UCAS application support
Eligibility
To take part in the Pathways to Medicine programme, students must meet certain eligibility criteria.
Students must:
- Attend, and have always attended, a state-funded, non-fee-paying school or college
- Be a current Year 12 student at the point of application
- Meet our minimum academic criteria to be eligible to study Medicine at University of Liverpool1
- Live within a reasonable commuting distance to the University of Liverpool
Students should meet at least one of the following criteria:

Please note, we may contact your teacher referee during the selection process to verify the details of your application.

The programme gave me the confidence I needed to apply to a course that, prior to joining, simply seemed out of my reach. I would recommend that absolutely everyone apply and throw themselves into it; the team genuinely care about you and want to see you succeed.
