About

Personal Statement

I am a research-active lecturer with a background in Sociology (BSc) and Social Statistics (MSc and PhD). I trained as a social scientist and have been working in mental health research since completing my doctoral training in 2015. In my research, a broader aim has been to identify the modifiable mechanisms involved in aetiology of common mental disorders and neurodevelopmental conditions using data from existing epidemiological studies and routine data sources. I have also published research in other areas, including reproductive health and the safety of psychotropic medication during pregnancy. Over the years, I have developed a methodological interest in the quantitative methods we can use to strengthen causal inference in observational studies and have applied these throughout my research. In my academic role, I lead an introductory module on epidemiology and statistics in mental health within the Master of Public Health programme and supervise research projects for undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral students.
