Romi Aggarwal, a PhD student from the Bower Research Group has been awarded Best Talk for his presentation at the 39th Postgraduate Symposium: RSC Heterocyclic and Synthesis Group, held at the University of Oxford.
Romi’s talk, titled “An iridium-catalysed Conia-ene reaction for the diastereo- and enantioselective synthesis of complex ring systems”, showcased his research on developing new methods to build nitrogen-containing ring structures. His work uses an iridium catalyst to form these structures in a highly controlled three-dimensional manner, opening up opportunities for creating complex molecules with potential applications across pharmaceuticals and beyond.
Reflecting on the achievement, Romi said:
“I really enjoyed giving my first oral presentation at an external conference, and having the chance to share ideas and experiences with academics and other final-year PhD students. With the quality of research being so high, I feel very grateful and honoured to have received the ‘best talk’ prize. I am excited to present my work again in the future.”
The symposium brought together PhD students from across the UK, alongside keynote lectures from leading academics and industry experts.
