Zi Ye is a Lecturer in Geographic Information Science in the Department of Geography and Planning and the Geographic Data Science Lab at the University of Liverpool, and a Co-Investigator on the ESRC-funded Geographic Data Service (GeoDS). Her research examines neighbourhood change, spatial inequality and social and spatial data science, with particular interests in retail geographies, social infrastructure, household finance and the transformation of everyday urban life. She led the first geodemographic classification of financial precarity across Great Britain and a national longitudinal analysis of retail centre vacancy. Her current work investigates retail centre performance and transformation, neighbourhood social infrastructure, and spatial economic restructuring. She applies quantitative geospatial methods to large-scale data to understand the compositional and contextual dimensions of socio-spatial structures and inequalities.
She completed her PhD in Geography at the University of Leeds in 2021, harnessing social media data to understand urban tourist patterns and their implications for retail location modelling. Prior to her current position, she was a postdoctoral researcher at the Consumer Data Research Centre (CDRC).
