About

Dr. Vasileios Fragkoulis received his five-year Diploma (2008) and his M.Sc. degree (2011) both in Applied Mathematical Sciences from the School of Applied Mathematical and Physical Sciences, National Technical University of Athens in Greece. He earned his Ph.D. degree (2017) in Applied Mathematics and Uncertainty Quantification from the Department of Mathematics of the University of Liverpool in the UK. He then joined Leibniz Universität Hannover in Germany, as a Research Associate in the Institute for Risk and Reliability (2018). Dr. Fragkoulis is a Lecturer of Environmental Engineering Risk and Uncertainty at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering of the University of Liverpool since August 2023. His research interests focus on the general area of Engineering and Applied Mathematics, and more specifically on Stochastic Dynamics and Uncertainty Quantification methodologies with diverse applications in Civil/Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Mechanics. Analysing and assessing the reliability of complex engineering systems and structures under the presence of uncertainties constitutes his main research theme. Dr Fragkoulis is an Early Career Editorial Board Member of the ASCE-ASME Journal of Risk and Uncertainty in Engineering Systems, and a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (M.ASCE). Dr. Fragkoulis serves as a member of the Probabilistic Mechanics and the Dynamics Committees of the Engineering Mechanics Institute (EMI), and had served as a member of the technical committees of the 9th International Symposium on Reliability Engineering and Risk Management (ISRERM2024), and of the 34th European Safety and Reliability Conference (ESREL 2024). He has been a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) since November 2024.
