Research
My research develops and applies advanced quantitative methods to understand disease patterns, project future health burdens, and evaluate prevention policies. I work across epidemiology, data science, and health systems research to generate actionable evidence for policymakers at local, national, and international levels.
Epidemiological Modelling & Microsimulation
I develop dynamic microsimulation models that integrate electronic health records, behavioural data, and environmental exposures to project health trajectories and quantify policy impacts. My IMPACT_NCD framework has been applied in England, Brazil, Japan, and Germany, informing national policy and generating publications in leading journals. The workHORSE decision-support tool continues to support the evaluation of the NHS Health Checks programme. Current work with the Health Foundation's REAL Centre projects multimorbidity and healthcare demand to 2040, examining how risk factors, socioeconomic inequalities, and demographic change drive long-term patterns of illness.
Food Policy & Prevention
I evaluate the health, economic, and equity impacts of nutrition and food system interventions, including sugar-sweetened beverage taxation, salt reformulation, and calorie labelling policies. This work spans multiple countries and has informed governmental strategies in the UK and internationally. My research also examines environmental health, including the health and climate benefits of clean cooking technologies in sub-Saharan Africa.
Multimorbidity & Health Inequalities
A major programme of work, in collaboration with the Health Foundation's REAL Centre, focuses on projecting multimorbidity and healthcare demand to 2040. This research examines how risk factors and socioeconomic deprivation drive the accumulation of multiple long-term conditions, and quantifies the burden of underdiagnosis in routine health data. The findings have informed national debates on health system planning and equitable resource allocation.
