Teaching spaces
Our newly upgraded facilities create a modern learning environment.
iMac suites
Students can work in two recently upgraded computer rooms, two of our mac suites each contain 16 iMacs with a newly developed mac suite able to facilitate larger classes of 26 iMacs. All iMacs are fully equipped with and running Ableton Live, Logic, Max/MSP/Jitter, Sibelius, Unity and Microsoft Office.
Teaching and seminar rooms
All our teaching rooms are designed for Music and are equipped with AV projectors, sound and pianos.
They range from a small chamber music room (for seminars with up to 10 students) to the newly refurbished Rendall rooms (for lectures to up to 80).
Ensemble+ project facilities
This facility includes portable facilities for hi bandwidth video conferencing with the Royal Northern College of Music and other partner Universities. Interactive performance masterclasses, teaching and lectures can be held in collaboration the partner institutions.
Game Design Suite
Collab Space
A 48 seat collaborative working space that features team desks with dedicated screens. Each desk has plug sockets, USBs, and HDMI leads so students can connect their own devices to their desk screen. Each desk has a whiteboard next to it for more traditional planning.
Games Lab
The games lab features 7 high spec PC and two console stations containing 4 consoles. Headsets and controllers can be booked out. High end gaming chairs and LED lights add a bit of pizazz. A Steam LAN server provides a broad range of games to the PCs and we also have a range of PS5 and xBox One games.
PC Teaching Centre
The teaching centre features 100 PCs, 30 of which are high spec, and is the main location for workshops and other practical sessions. Screens are placed around the room for the lecturer to present work with clarity. There are three wheelchair accessible desks.
