Diagnostic imaging

Radiography

Our new Mark Sound Eklin digital radiography system enables instant viewing of high-resolution radiographs. This compact, powerful and portable machine permits detailed investigation of structures such as the foot and limbs, as well as more complicated anatomy such as the neck and head.

Ultrasonography

We have a top of the range Sonosite-Micromax portable ultrasound scanner. This equipment assists in the diagnosis of a wide range of conditions, such as soft tissue injuries in lameness cases, ocular abnormalities and colic complaints. Pregnancy assessment can be carried out at the clinic.

Endoscopy

Our portable flexible fibre-optic endoscope complete with a large digital screen facilitates viewing of internal structures, for example, the respiratory tract (upper airway obstructive disorders) on your yard. At the clinic we can look for gastric ulcers and bladder stones.

Advanced diagnostic imaging

Many conditions affecting the horse can be frustrating and difficult to diagnose accurately within first opinion practice. Advanced imaging techniques such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT) can provide accurate and non-invasive diagnosis of conditions such as foot penetrations and dental abnormalities. Not only can these imaging modalities provide swift diagnosis of problems (often for emergency cases) but can provide detailed anatomical information to aid medical and surgical treatment. Our close affinity with the Philip Leverhulme Equine Hospital ensures a swift referral for the use of these facilities should the need arise.
