Dr. Roger Manley Francis on a hike

The University of Liverpool School of Dentistry is proud to announce the opening of applications for the Dr. Roger Manley Francis Research Oral and Dental Research Fellowship - a prestigious opportunity designed to support postgraduate students through clinical PhD fellowships.

Established in honour of Dr. Francis, a distinguished alumnus whose legacy of excellence and dedication to dental education continues to inspire, this fellowship reflects his lifelong commitment to research, innovation, and widening participation in dentistry.

Dr. Francis’ family had this to say about the launch of the fund:

"Roger recognized that the education he received at the School of Dentistry, University of Liverpool was the doorway to an exciting future.  He was a lifelong learner and knowledge allowed him to seize every adventure with confidence.  This Fellowship captures Roger’s spirit by empowering those who are still early in their journey to use education as a tool to create their own opportunities."

The Research Fellowship itself will encourage applicants to conduct their own independent research, focusing on either the School’s oral health research group or the dental innovation research group. Our oral health research group aims to enhance health outcomes and address health inequality through collaborative research while our dental innovation research group strives to improve patient care by integrating biomedical science, advanced materials and dental procedures through patient engagement and professional collaboration.

This Fellowship will be transformational for aspiring clinical researchers, particularly those who require financial support to realise their full potential. It aims not only to foster ground-breaking research but also to promote greater inclusivity and impact in the field of dental science.
