Impact & Purpose
We are rooted in Liverpool, but our impact reaches across the globe.
Established in 1881, we pride ourselves in having a long history of collaborating with a variety of organisations and stakeholders regionally, nationally and internationally, helping to address global scientific, health and social challenges. As we approach our 150th anniversary we reflect on a legacy of innovation. Our pioneering computer science in the 1960s contributed to early developments in computing and artificial intelligence (AI), we have advanced particle physics through contributions to the Large Hadron Collider, influencing global research infrastructure and in 2020, we led the world’s first voluntary mass COVID-19 testing programme.
Driving Innovation, Collaboration, and Impact
We drive innovation by connecting cutting-edge research expertise to real-world challenges across health, advanced materials, digital technologies, creative industries, and sustainability. Collaborating with over 1,300 organisations in over 40 countries, from start-ups to multinationals, we create impact by leveraging investment, support, and collaboration.
