Transitioning to university can be both challenging and exciting. This session will cover essential resources and expectations for students, beginning with a welcome talk from the Dean of School and an introduction to key staff. You'll learn about student support, the student voice, careers, and employability opportunities, as well as managing time effectively, taking ownership of your work, and understanding available support. This session is designed to equip you with the knowledge and tools for a smooth and successful transition to university life.
A message from the HLC Associate Dean for Education, Professor Diana Cullell-Teixidor:
"We are really looking forward to meeting you! During the session you will meet key members in the School and you will be signposted to all the support we can offer you throughout your studies. We will discuss topics such as registration and modules, coursework and assignment, as well as Student Representation and Societies. We will also chat about settling into University, how to set yourself up for success and the pitfalls of Generative Artificial Intelligence!"
At the session, you will also meet a current student who has recently been in your position! A message from HLC 2nd year student Oliwia Felinska:
"As I’m entering my second year of study, I know exactly how you’re feeling as a new student at the University. During the session, I will be giving you my experience and tips and will be on hand to answer any questions you may have. By giving guidance in the session, I hope to provide insights how fun and exciting this journey will be!"
This session is for new ACE, History and Irish Studies undergraduate students, and Politics, History and Irish Studies postgraduate students studying a programme within the School of Histories, Languages and Cultures.
