Long-term opportunities
Long-term opportunities include spending a summer or whole year abroad, or spending a year at our partner institution, Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University in China. Short-term opportunities
Our students can take part in various exciting short-term international experiences. These offer both educational value and cultural enrichment, and are partially financially supported by the University. Further information is available to current mathematics students from Canvas.
MATH309 Mathematics Internship (various locations)
MATH309 runs in the summer (June–July) between years 2 and 3, and offers a placement for 4–6 weeks in which students explore a mathematical topic under the supervision of an academic at an overseas university. For students on G100, G101, G121 and GG13, MATH309 replaces one optional (15 credit) module in semester one of year 3. Students on other programmes in the Mathematics department can take MATH309 as a non-credit bearing extracurricular activity.
CERN Trip (Geneva, Switzerland)
A five-day educational visit to Geneva, usually held during the Easter break. The highlight of the trip is a visit to CERN — the European Council for Nuclear Research — one of the world’s largest and most respected centres for scientific research in particle physics.
Utrecht Summer School (Utrecht, Netherlands)
A seven-day workshop in Utrecht, typically held in July or August. Students participate in a workshop focused on a specific area of mathematics.
