Overview

This project will clarify the impact of total value on decision-making by compiling a large database, investigating predictive factors, and developing a unifying computationally detailed theory.

About this opportunity

An exciting opportunity is available to undertake a fully funded PhD with an outstanding team of cognitive, data, and computer scientists at the University of Liverpool, starting in October 2025. The successful candidates will benefit from a large interdisciplinary network and from excellent working conditions. Throughout the three years, tuition fees will be covered, and PhD students will receive a stipend along with additional funds for attending conferences, workshops etc. UK/Home students only.

The project will use meta-analysis of a large database of decision-making studies combined with cutting-edge computational techniques to shed light on the fundamental mechanisms of decision-making.

As part of this project, two PhD students will be recruited. To maximise chances of success, we expect one student to specialise in advanced data science methods, and one student to specialise in advanced computational modelling methods. PhD students will collaborate with world-renowned experts in decision-making, cognitive modelling (Angelo Pirrone, Nathan Evans, Konstantinos Tsetsos) and the analysis of large-scale datasets (Giovanni Sala).
