The Florence Nightingale Clinical Simulation Suite
The Florence Nightingale Clinical Simulation Suite is where a number of our programmes conduct their clinical teaching, allowing students to familiarise themselves with the latest professional equipment in realistically simulated healthcare environments.
Wards and Critical Care Space
There are two fully functioning simulated hospital wards which visually and technically mimic those used in the NHS. The wards, measuring 70.3m2 and 80.6m2 house 12 hospital beds along with a wealth of specialist equipment including high fidelity simulation manikins.
There is a nurse call alarm system, fully functioning NIV ventilators, simulated electronic patient record system, sepsis, fully equipped resus and difficult airway, drug administration trollies, suction machines, camera and audio system for streaming and audio capture of simulated practice, hospital patient trolley and portable X-ray machine.
The area is also home to a critical care room containing a critical care bed, fully functioning 02 and suction ports, simulated invasive ventilator plus observation and assessment rooms.
Anatomage Table
A state-of-the-art platform offering the most advanced, real-human medical technology, digitalising human cadavers and providing users with simulation of real-tissue physiology.
Measuring at 21.2m2 and running on anatomage 11, the table features a multi-touch screen and life-size platform. It also connects to the internet, projectors and external monitors for interactive learning.
Simulation Manikins
The School is home to two ‘Leonardo’ simulation manikins designed for a wide variety of clinical training scenarios. A completely wireless adult patient simulator, the ‘Leonardo’ manikin can support a wide range of clinical simulation exercises from advanced life support to critical care, including CPR, intubation, ventilation, measuring of blood pressure and oxygen saturation.
‘Juno’ and ‘Ares’ manikins are also available, offering a range of features to support clinical simulation including articulation, breathing, circulation and medication administration.
Therapy Flat and kitchen
Our fully equipped Therapy Flat provides a purpose-built space where future Occupational Therapists can safely develop their skills through simulation exercises, helping them to practice the community interventions needed for patients to retain their independence and self-sufficiency.
The space, measuring at 20m2, features living, sleeping, kitchen and bathroom areas, all designed to simulate the constraints of a patient’s home and has cameras fitted to enable observations and assessments. The kitchen space is fully functional and includes height-adjustable oven and countertops.
