Veterinary Forensic Science MSc
Animal abuse, neglect and welfare concerns are increasing throughout the UK and worldwide. The field of forensic science means to apply scientific methods to criminal cases and particularly focuses on gathering and analysing evidence that may be required for courts of law. This requires a broad knowledge of the resources available to aid in gathering evidence and ultimately interpreting the findings that can be relayed to the court environment. Animal cases are often indicators of potential human issues and may act as early warning signs that there is a domestic issue. Therefore, forensic application of investigations into animal cruelty and neglect can prevent escalation of violence to child abuse and domestic violence.
This master’s course aims to provide a holistic approach to animal forensic cases in this emerging field of expertise. You'll gain insight in the animal welfare legislation, the forensic veterinary examination, expert witness skills and various tools that are a viable to build a case. You'll also benefit from teaching by experts in the field and will have the opportunity to conduct research in the area.
