Perinatal, Infant and Child Mental Health Research Group

The Perinatal, infant and child mental health research group focuses on understanding the development of mental health through the life course, from before conception and through infancy, childhood, adolescence and into adulthood.

Our work also incorporates global perspectives, both in the identification of culturally relevant risks for mental health and in developing and evaluating prevention strategies and interventions to reduce the global burden of mental health problems and enhance psychological wellbeing in context.

Key research themes:

  • The identification of bio-psychosocial mechanisms and risk/protective factors,
  • Understanding trans-generational processes
  • Intervention, service development and implementation research in perinatal, infant and child mental health in various contexts.
  • Global mental health

The group brings together clinical expertise in perinatal, child and adolescent clinical psychology and psychiatry and research expertise in observational longitudinal, population based studies alongside experimental and intervention research.
