Professor Fiona Rowe was invited to deliver a keynote presentation at the recent The 7th ASEAN Ophthalmology Congress in Brunei.
Held from 6-8 November, the 7th Ophthalmology Congress gathered to share research on the theme of 'Vision Beyond Borders: Bridging Regional Expertise, Elevating Eye Care for All'. Professor Fiona Rowe, Clinical Lead for the Institute of Population Health, was invited by the Brunei Ophthalmology Society to deliver one of the keynote speech at the conference, in recognition of her world-leading research on the effect of stroke on vision function.
The conference is not only an opportunity for researchers from around the world to share the latest in vision research, it is a platform for effecting change in government policy in Brunei and the wider region. One of the key goals of the society, and the conference, is to lobby for universal access to quality vision care throughout Brunei and East Asia.
Speaking on reflection of the event, Professor Rowe said, "It was a pleasure to be invited to give the Allied Health Professions keynote at the AOS conference in Brunei, in part because of reconnecting with an ex-student (now Head Orthoptist) and in part to share our stroke-vision research and its clinical applications. Prior to the conference start I had an engaging afternoon with the stroke team at the Jerudong Park Medical Centre discussing vision screening and referral pathways. A real positive and tangible outcome since my return has been the continued online discussion of developing a formal stroke-vision pathway for Brunei, and I look forward to seeing the outcomes from this."
