A team of students from the Department of Psychology have won first prize at the Young Enterprise UK Final 2025.
The team represented the department and the University of Liverpool at the Young Enterprise UK Final, which took place at the University of Hertfordshire on Wednesday 14 May.
Psychology students Holly Hadley, Caragh Gray, Rory Montgomerie, Abbie Kleiner-Mann and Paris Read previously presented their business called Passing Presence (a bereavement service) at the Young Enterprise Regional Final, where they secured a place in the UK Final.
The UK Final saw the team, and regional final winners from universities across the country, present their businesses at stalls during the event.
They also delivered presentations to a panel of judges.
Following the presentations, the team from the Department of Psychology were awarded first place and 'Best Presentation' at the event.
They also secured a place at the Young Enterprise International Final, which will be held in Athens from 1 - 4 July 2025.
Speaking about University of Liverpool's success at the Young Enterprise UK Final, Department of Psychology lecturer Dr Caroline Hands - who leads the 398 Work Experience module - said: "I'm incredibly proud of the Passing Presence team, who drew on psychological principles to develop a powerful business idea (a bereavement service) in their third-year psychology module.
"Across just twelve weeks of teaching and support, the team worked tirelessly on their idea and despite having no prior business experience, they went on to win best presentation and best Start-Up company 2025 at both regional and national levels, beating hundreds of University teams from across the UK."
Dr Hands added: "They will be representing the UK at the International Final in Athens in July. This phenomenal team have worked together to overcome challenges and demands of developing a business and I'm looking forward to seeing how they develop this in the future."
We wish Holly Hadley, Caragh Gray, Rory Montgomerie, Abbie Kleiner-Mann and Paris Read all the best for their participation at the Young Enterprise International Final.
