Personal Statement

Andrew Russell was the Head of Department for Politics at the University of Liverpool, 2017-22.Andrew on BBC Breakfast

Andrew is currently on research leave (until September 2023).
His book on the Liberal Democrats "From Hope to despair to where?" - co-written with David Cutts and Joshua Townsley will be published by Manchester University Press in 2023.
He is currently finishing a research monograph on European Roma "The Politics of Unbelonging" with Andreja Zevnik.


Andrew previously worked at
1994 -2017 University of Manchester, Lecturer, Senior Lecturer (2004), Professor (2011) and Head of Politics at Manchester (2012-2015).

1990-1991 Loughborough University, Temporary Lecturer in Politics
1989-1990 University of Sheffield, Research Assistant on the ESRC funded project “North-South, Urban-Rural - the Post-1955 Electoral Geography of Britain”

He is best known for his work on political parties, electoral engagement and marginalised communities.

He is happy to be in involved in PhD supervisions for any aspect of British Politics, centre parties comparatively or on marginalised communities especially European Roma.
