Teaching

I teach a first year module in popular music history of the twentieth century. Unfortunately, because of module time constraints, this is primarily limited to American and British derived popular music. (Fortunately there are other modules available that allow students to look further afield).

I teach popular music composition, which of course includes song writing but also allows students to consider other kind of popular music creation such as instrumental music, jazz and more experimental forms.

I also teach music analysis and theory which investigates both popular music (in the widest sense) and western art music (i.e. so-called 'classical').
