BA (Hons), MA, PhD

About

I am an interdisciplinary scholar, specialising in nineteenth-century literature and the history of medicine. My expertise is in periodical studies, and women's writing and their history (particularly as it relates to medical practice and treatment). I am interested in women and psychiatry, female doctors, and women's writing within medical and patient journals.

I am the William Noble Fellow for 2024-27. Prior to this, I held the Alan F Price Postdoctoral Teaching Fellowship for 2023-24. Before coming to Liverpool, I held a WRoCAH Engagement Fellowship at the University of York (2023) and completed my PhD at the University of Leeds (2021).

I teach on a range of modules within the English Department, at both UG and PGT level. These include the second-year Victorian Literature module, and the Victorian Literature MA pathway.

In addition to my research and teaching, I am passionate about making medical history more accessible. I am currently working on a project which aims to share the stories of female doctors, past and present. I have previously curated an exhibition on apothecary jars for the Harvard Centre for the History of Medicine (2018), and assisted with the development of an educational game on AHRC funded project, Mind-Boggling Medical History (2017-18).
