About

Dr Jetsy Montero Vergara is a Postdoctoral Research Associate (PDRA) at the University of Liverpool, working within the Liverpool Head and Neck Centre in the group of Professor Keith Hunter. Her research focuses on translational cancer biology, with particular interest in tumour microenvironment interactions, cellular senescence and treatment response.

She brings international research experience across Spain, the UK and Germany, with training at the University of Navarra (BSc and MSc), an Erasmus+ placement and Master’s thesis project at Liverpool John Moores University under Professor Amos Fatokun, and a PhD in Molecular Biology from the University of Duisburg-Essen, awarded in 2023.

Her background spans molecular and cell biology, mechanistic cancer research and autophagy, with experience in molecular and imaging-based phenotyping, histology/immunostaining, and RNA-seq-supported biological interpretation. She develops and applies disease-relevant experimental systems, including primary human cell models, co-cultures and 3D spheroids, to strengthen translational and preclinical research, with the goal of improving disease understanding and supporting better patient outcomes.
