About

I began my academic career at the University of Liverpool in 2023, after spending a year on secondment during the 2018-19 academic year. My research interests are around the Orthoptic monitoring of IIH, an area of extended practice I have been able to move into following the completion of my MSc Advanced Clinical Practice.

In 2020 I was seconded to the British and Irish Orthoptic Society to undertake a collaborative HEE project - the Clinical Placement Expansion Project (CPEP). This allowed me to draw upon my 10 years experience as a clinical tutor to develop innovative digital approaches to developing authentic placement experiences for Orthoptic students. The team on this project have received a number of awards to recognise the success and innovative approach; including the BIOS Special Service Award, the CAHPO awards, and a Sir Alistair Pilkington Learning and Teaching Award. My contributions to this project are ongoing and represent an exciting approach to developing our students clinical expertise.

My current research projects and collaborations are; Vision in Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension (IIH) – patient perspectives of vision loss and vision care (Royal Stoke university Hospitals); Digital Approach to Orthoptics anatomy Teaching (HARC at UoL) and evaluation of the CPEP project.
