Dianelys Iré Santos Piñero is a PhD Law student at the University of Liverpool. She graduated from the University of Manchester in 2021 with an undergraduate degree in Law (LLB). During this time, she discovered a passion for medical law which she developed by undertaking a master’s degree in Healthcare Ethics and Law (LLM) at the University of Manchester, graduating in 2023. Her research focuses on access to healthcare for underrepresented communities, most noticeably for the LGBTQ+ community and children. Her previous research has covered access to puberty blockers for transgender adolescents and uterine transplants for transgender women. Her doctoral thesis is entitled ‘Medico-Legal Problems Faced by Transgender Asylum Seekers and Refugees in the United Kingdom: Appropriate Access to Healthcare and Legal Gender Recognition’.
