Teaching Interests
1. Vision Science and Ocular Cell Biology
Carl teaches modules on ocular anatomy, physiology, and cellular mechanisms of eye disease. Topics include glaucoma, retinal wound healing, and regenerative strategies.
2. Research Methods and Laboratory Skills
He delivers training in cell culture, imaging, and tissue engineering techniques, ensuring students gain hands-on experience in advanced research methods. He also teaches laboratory techniques for undergraduate biology and medical students.
3. Research and Scholarship
Carl teaches research and scholarship skills to medical students, helping them develop critical thinking and evidence-based practice.
4. Postgraduate Modules and Supervision
He runs postgraduate modules at MSc level (Clinical Sciences) and supervises research projects (MRes, PHD) in glaucoma pathobiology, trabecular meshwork models, retinal pigment epithelium biology, and biomaterials for ocular repair. He welcomes PhD applications in these areas.
5. Postgraduate teaching
He delivers lectures in stem cell biology, tissue engineering and regenerative medicine and ocular cell biology.
