April graduated from the University of Bristol with a degree in Veterinary Science (2015) and an intercalated degree in Pathology and Microbiology (2013).
Clinically, she has worked in equine ambulatory practice, completed an equine hospital internship, and undertaken a residency in equine internal medicine. She holds a Certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice (Equine Medicine) and became a Diplomate of the European College of Equine Internal Medicine in 2021. April is recognised as both an RCVS and European Specialist in Equine Internal Medicine. Since 2020, April has been a Senior Clinician at the University of Liverpool's Equine Hospital.
April holds a master’s degree and has recently completed a PhD at the University of Liverpool (2020-2024), focusing on equine antimicrobial resistance, usage, and stewardship. As part of her PhD, she established the Equine Veterinary Surveillance Network (EVSNET), which she continues to expand, utilising health informatics for surveillance and research. Her research primarily focuses on equine antimicrobial resistance, parasitology, and infectious diseases.
She is currently a Senior Lecturer in Equine Medicine and Veterinary Clinical Epidemiology at the University of Liverpool, where she combines her roles as both a clinician and a researcher.
