I am a Senior Lecturer in Mathematics, where I lead the Centre for Mathematical Imaging Techniques (CMIT) as well as the Imaging & Data Science group. Born in Hamburg, I received a PhD in Mathematics from the Technical University of Munich (Germany) in 2003, spent my postdoc years at the City University of New York (CUNY), Cornell University, the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), and the Technical University of Munich. I received a Habilitation degree from the Technical University of Munich in 2018 and joined the University of Liverpool in 2019. My research has been funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (AvH), and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC).
My research focuses on Discrete Inverse Problems, concerned with reconstructing objects that can be described by a finite set of geometric or combinatorial parameters from incomplete or noisy measurements. Particular emphasis is placed on geometric clustering and tessellations, discrete and geometric tomography, and mathematical imaging. Recent work has centred on the development of Generalized Balanced Power Diagrams (GBPDs), a generalization of Voronoi diagrams, as a mathematical framework for the reconstruction and representation of complex microstructures.
