Personal Statement

I obtained my MEng degree in information technology from the University of Damascus (Syria) in 2005, and completed my PhD at the University of Liverpool. My PhD research focused on computational argumentation and its applications to data mining. After working for two years in industry, I moved to IGH in 2012 as post-doctoral research associate, and since 2017 as BBSRC/MRC funded NPIF fellow. My current research interests lie in understanding the sharing of pathogens amongst host species. In particular, applying network models to investigate sharing, transmission and emerging of pathogens in host species. My work is interdisciplinary in its nature, and it brings together computer science, mathematics, statistics and various fields of biology.
