Athens is an artsy and laid-back college town, roughly 1 hour drive from Atlanta. It enjoys long hot summers and short cool winters. Athens has a popular football team (the University of Georgia Bulldogs), a world-famous music scene (which has launched artists including the B-52s, REM and Widespread Panic) and a burgeoning restaurant culture. It is a pleasant and walkable town and the University of Georgia drives its culture.

University Information

Spend a week at our partner university, University of Georgia Athens (UGA), taking part in cultural seminars and social actives. Session will be led by academic at UGA covering zeitgeist topics previous years have focused on Race and Diversity in the USA, Civic Engagement, and Leadership. There will also be many opportunities to immerse in local culture including, meetings with local communities, visiting university departments, audiences with various political figures in Athens. Students will also be able to explore the local area and take part in social activities. There will be a day trip to Atlanta which will include a visit to the British Consulate, Civil and Human Rights Museum as well as Coca-Cola World.
Any student on any Allied Health Profession degree should speak with their programme lead and GOAA Amanda Deaves before applying, to ensure it will not clash with any placement or course requirements.
Additional Information
The programme dates are from June 7th – June 14th, the trip is fully funded and includes flights (return to Manchester), accommodation and food.
In order to be eligible for this programme you must be an undergraduate student and one of the University's Widening Participation criteria:
- Students in receipt of the Liverpool Bursary
- Students in receipt of the Liverpool Scholars Award or Realising Opportunity Bursary
- Students eligible under the Disrupted Education Programme i.e.
- Are care experienced
- Are a young carer for parents/siblings
- Are estranged from family
- Forced migrants
- Are from a Travelling community
- Are from a military family
Students who are Care Experienced will receive first priority.
Students who want to apply for this programme MUST list it as their first choice.
If you do not meet the Widening Participation criteria, your application for this programme will be automatically rejected.
